About the Spring Show

The Bethlehem House Gallery’s Spring Show is a mix of contemporary local and regional fine artists displayed in a functional interior design setting. Each room in our gallery space uses the setting of a house to convey a practical use of presenting artwork to elevate the aesthetics of a home. We pair paintings, drawings, and sculpture with furniture, glass, dishware, light fixtures and more. We provide innovative ways for showcasing handcrafted items prefect for furnishing the home. The Spring Show specifically brings a bright feeling to our exhibit space, as the world becomes brighter and our atmosphere begins to blossom. Our Spring Show runs from April 5th to June 1st.

Shawn Campbell

“My sculptures usually have a combined human, animal and natural imagery which creates a kind of emotional and poetic power. My work frequently addresses our vulnerability amid changing personal, environmental and political realities.

Recently, I have been working with organic shapes, and just letting the clay speak.

Often there’s a suggestion of a vital interconnection between the human and non-human realms; the imagery arises from associations, concerns and obsessions that are at once intimate and universal.

I focus on a kind of mysterious way of seeing the world, typically through the eye of innocence and a love of the eclectic.”

Mandy Martin

My artwork is about being free to experience life! I paint with bold colors and expressive brushstrokes because life is too short to hold back. When I look at flowers or a landscape, I see a miraculous display of color and movement unfolding before my eyes. To capture that feeling of wonder, I exaggerate color, contrast and shape. Layers of acrylic wash and splashing paint create the sense of spontaneous joy I feel when observing nature. Every brushstroke reflects the freedom to express what is moving me.

Poppies are featured in many of my paintings, symbolizing resilience and rebirth. They are my favorite flower, and when they bloom each summer, they are so stunning! I am amazed by how something so beautiful and fragile can be so resilient. It is this combination of fragility and strength that inspires me to paint them again and again.

This collection features flowers growing in the wild – untamed. The liberated brushstrokes are what I’m after, to capture the wild spirit of these blooms. And it showcases flowers in vases – capturing their wild beauty. Putting flowers in a vase is a simple ritual that says, slow down, enjoy the moment. These blooms will only be here for a short time. Enjoy them while they last.

Bennett Rambo

As a self-taught artist, I find fulfillment in expressing myself through the power of art. My chosen mediums, including acrylic paint, oil paint, oil sticks, and spray paint, serve as the conduits through which I weave my visual narratives.

My artistic practice is driven by a desire to invite viewers to explore the depths of their own perceptions. I believe that art has the ability to challenge preconceived notions, question assumptions, and spark introspection. Through my work, I strive to create a space where the boundaries between reality and imagination are blurred, encouraging viewers to delve into the richness of their own thoughts and emotions.

My creative process is intuitive and spontaneous, guided by an exploration of color, texture, and form. I allow each piece to take on a life of its own, embracing the unexpected and imperfections that arise along the way. It is through this process that my art becomes a reflection of the raw and authentic nature of human existence.

Charles Stonewall

Charles Stonewall is a visual artist based in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania! With his passion for photography, Charles has explored the realms of lighting, portraiture, and dance photography, all with the aim of uniting people through the power of art. His collaborative approach brings together many cultures and shared experiences, resulting in works that genuinely reflect our collective human experience.

“My photographs hold a timeless quality, weaving together images and moments from varying perspectives and eras. Each portrait captures the beauty of untold dreams, unheard voices, and afflictions, creating a tapestry of evolving perspectives that feel invigorating every time I revisit them. As I grow alongside my subjects, my understanding deepens, and the interplay of shadows and light takes on new meaning, revealing a mystery that lingers beyond the moment captured.”

Ward Van Haute

I am a multi-disciplined artist creating works focusing on a bold color palette that serves to enhance the relationship between light and pigment in my reverse glass paintings. My preferred medium is painting with oils on the reverse of reclaimed glass windows.

My energetic brushwork combined with a bold color palette serves to enhance the relationship between light and pigment in my reverse glass paintings. The process of reverse painting is like a puzzle. Working backwards and in reverse requires me to form the image differently, focusing first on the fine details then working back to the broader composition.

The surface is unforgiving. Once a layer dries it can’t be reworked without scraping off all previous layers. This restriction demands creative flexibility and further motivates me to be innovative in my medium as I strive to master. I love the luminosity that reverse painting brings to the finished artwork. Oils on the reverse of glass capture ambient light like no other medium and support combination.

In addition to painting on glass, I also experiment in kiln formed glass as well as sculpture. In my sculptural work I use a combination of found objects and cold casting materials.
