Abbey Rosko

My oil paintings distill film-musical images into fading ethereal scenes that transcend their original contexts and illicit dream-like spaces that serve as settings for new narratives. The process I employ is a pseudo-printmaking technique that involves drawing on paper pressed over freshly painted oils. The top layer of pigment is lifted from the areas where I press. This process results in a collapsed space where faces recede and emerge amongst their surroundings.
