Intuition, a sense of play, and the joy of experimentation is the improvisational process used to create my abstract mixed media paintings. I prefer to focus on process and materials rather than having a particular concept in mind for each piece. In addition to acrylic paint, the works often incorporate texturized gesso, ink, oil pastel, charcoal, graphite, water soluble crayons, fabric, cheesecloth and found or created collage papers. Stencils, stamps and various tools for scraping into the paint are also utilized. The many layers of paint over line and texture leave intriguing traces of what came before and evoke the passage of time.
