Roy Gruver, from Bethlehem, PA, specializes in kiln-formed glass and is one of the founders and a resident artist at the R&R Glass Studio in Bethlehem, PA. Gruver was the principal instructor in the kiln-formed glass program at the Banana Factory, where he taught all experience levels for eight years. He is currently an active instructor at The Studio, Corning Museum of Glass and the Pittsburgh Glass Center.
Along with being a Featured Artist in the gallery’s 2019 Holiday Show, Gruver’s work has been exhibited in numerous shows and events including a solo show at the Backstreet Gallery in Stroudsburg, Pa. (2012-2013); the Riverside Festival of the Arts in Easton, Pa. (2012-2016); Santa Bannon Fine Art (2013, 2014); Banana Factory Glass Blast (2014, 2015, 2016, 2018); Refind Gallery, Allentown (2018); and R&R Gallery, Bethlehem (2018).
He has studied with a number of major glass artists including Rudi Gritsch (Austria), Dan Fenton, Mark Ditzler, Martin Kremer, Alyssa Oxley, Matthew Day Perez, Marina Hanser (Austria), Garielle Kusnter (Germany), Claudia Borella (New Zealand) and has intensely studied the work of Klaus Moje.
Gruver has explored art as a printmaker, painter, and glass artist. His most recent work is focused around texture (physical and visual) and color overlays in mid-sized glass panels.
