Sandra Eliot

I started this series with appreciation for the long history of the importance of the Lotus in Asian culture. The Lotus has been manifested for centuries in the arts, including including the famous oriental carpets as palmettes. In reading about the images in these rugs, I became fascinated with the connection to the Lotus. This combined with my appreciation of the colors, textures and images used.

As the painting series has evolved, it has inspired me to make the elements and imagery which are traditionally in static or patterned relationships interact with each other on different levels or depths. Also, to move in varied directions and rhythms, with more sense of form.
